Spring into your summer self with Superfoods! -- by @tcolorpalette

"Superfoods" is just the name we use to call specific foods with high doses of vitamins, minerals , antioxidants and fiber. Eating them not only help us to fuel up our bodies with the nutrients it needs, it is also said that they reduce the risk of chronic diseases. Most "superfoods" are really easy to incorporate in our diets, but my favorite way to use them is by adding them in my smoothies. Today I'll show you what are my favorite superfoods, their benefits and how to use them to boost the nutritional value in your smoothies.

FLAX SEEDS are filled with healthy fatty acids and fiber. Fatty acids are specially important on out diet because they reduce the risk of hearth disease, hypertension, and joint pain. They also boost our immune system and brain function. The high fiber in flax help us to eliminate toxins. One tablespoon of flaxseeds in your smoothie is more than enough to take advantage of its benefits.

HEMP SEEDS are rich in fatty acids fiber, Vitamin E, and a lot of protein, more than 25% of their calories are protein. Not only that ,hemp seeds contain all essential amino acids, making them a great addition for a vegetarian/vegan diet, and a very effective post workout food for its ability to repair muscles. You can add one or two tablespoons on your smoothie, or sprinkle some seeds on top of your smoothie or salad, for a crunchy kick.

CHIA SEEDS are one of the most nutritious foods on the planet. They contain omega-3 fatty acids, carbohydrates, protein, fiber, antioxidants and calcium. Some of their benefits include, improving your digestive and hearth health, fighting high cholesterol, and boosting your energy and metabolism Chia Seeds also help you have stronger bones, to build muscle and even to lose weight! You can eat this seeds raw, but I prefer to soak them before adding them to my recipes, to make them easier to digest. I add up to two tablespoons of Chia Seeds (soaked) on my smoothies for a thick consistency. Once in a while I add them to my fruit (usually lemon) water to make a filling nutritious drink.

COCONUT OIL maybe already an staple in your kitchen but did you know that it can be your best ally if you're trying to lose weight? Coconut oil is high in natural saturated fats, which can help your body to fight your body fat by converting it in energy. Ingesting coconut oil also strengthens the immune system and improves your digestion. Add one tablespoon of coconut oil to your smoothies to give them a creamy consistency.

Hope this post helped you to get some ideas on how to add superfoods on your diet. If you want to learn how to make the perfect smoothie loaded with superfoods head over The Color Palette to find out my quick & easy smoothie recipe.
